Laundry Soap

I never really thought about making the stuff... until I came across this tutorial a couple weeks ago. Then it just wouldn't leave my mind. Granted, my current bottle of laundry detergent was quickly reaching the point of empty, which also kept the tutorial on my mind. When our miss g was teeny tiny my husband bought a big ol' honkin' box of Borax powder to aid in the laundering of her cute little soiled clothes. We didn't even use a quarter of it! It has just been sitting my cupboard for a couple of years now.... I decided this recipe was the perfect fix for emptying up that space in my cupboard. I'll use every inch of storage I can get!

I followed the recipe for the most part, I doubled it and still only used one bar of Fels-Naptha. I've done a few loads of laundry and have been pretty pleased with it so far. My clean laundry smells clean, and I didn't have to buy more laundry detergent! So neat. I did have to buy a bar of Fels-Naptha and a box of washing soda to make this stuff, but I'm okay with that.

Ingredients:
1 bar Fels-Naptha bar soap
1 cup Borax
1 cup Washing Soda
1/4 cup Baking Soda

For the record this recipe didn't use all of my borax, so the box is still in my cupboard. Along with the additional box of washing soda sitting next to it. One day when I make enough laundry detergent I might have 4" of storage space in my cupboard! Woo!

  2. This seems to work very well. I visited her laundry room and gave it a try! one secret. You use 2 tablespoons in a load of laundry.(I happened to see it on her cute label).
