Yoyo Hair Clippy

I made these hairclips with my sister, Nan.
Her little girl and my miss G were born within four days of each other.
At the same hospital.
By the same doctor.
Cousin twins!
So, naturally, we have to make matchy things  for them to wear....

Start with a circle of fabric,
stitch with a needle and thread around the entire edge,
and pull the thread tight
making all the edges come together
creating the Yoyo:

Glue your desired hair fastener on the back:
We used hot glue.

And glue something pretty on the front.
We used my moms amazing assortment of buttons
and came up with all sorts of cute hair clips.

It's nice to have some of these on hand to give as gifts as well.

In a Hair Funk?

Quick Hairstyles

Would you believe me if I told you
that I wore my hair like this during this last week?
Well, you should.
Because I did.
And then I scrubbed the bathroom from top to bottom.
Because I'm super like that.
Well, maybe my hair didn't look quite like this...
having short hair, there was the dorky little pony tail out the back,
and bangs coming out from under the front of the scarf.
And since I was scrubbing the bathroom
there wasn't really any pink gloss on my lips.
Or maybe there was.

Hairs the Deal

Spring is just around the corner, and that means we're all ready for a change. Especially if you are as grateful to see dead grass as I am... serious. The snow started to melt this last week and I saw dead grass for the first time since the beginning of December when it snowed two feet. Glory be. Since change is on the mind, I found a few sites that have hair ideas. Doing hair is my thing, and it's often on my mind- even when I am sewing or making other crafts! Take a look, find something you like, and give it a try in the next couple of days. Or, share what you find with a friend. Enjoy!

New Look for 2011

Look at this lady! She is absolutely rocking this new haircut for january 2011! Sorry, no before photos on this one. I was so excited to cut her hair that I forgot the before pics! Oh, well. Just use your imagination and picture her hair being longer than it is in the pictures... yep, that's it. You are so good at this.

This is one of my best friends. I have known her since before I could read or ride a bike. We grew up around the corner from each other, and even our moms are the greatest of friends. I love connections like that, the ones that go deep in your heart and deep in your memories. In the past I have cut her hair when it was almost down to her waist, and I cut off all the length of her hair when she wanted it up to her shoulders. Now I was able to cut her hair into her "shortest hair cut ever". It was so fun, and I love looking at these pictures over and over again, she looks so good!

Big Change

This is the before picture to one of the many haircuts I was privileged to do during our Thanksgiving break. It was also one of the biggest look changes out of all of them. This cute little lady was tired of her curls being so long and heavy. "That's an easy fix!" I said as I whacked off seven inches of hair.... just kidding... well, sort of kidding:

We really did cut off seven inches of hair, but it was definitely more precision cutting than just whacking it off! The first thing she said looking into the mirror was "It's so short!!!" But after a couple of minutes she warmed up to the idea, and loved it. It's kind of hard to see in the before and after pics, but we also did some highlights. They are very natural looking and subtle, but it added a really pretty depth to her one-shade natural brown color. Look how cute she is! I love this girl.

A Hair Cut

Have I ever mentioned that I love to cut hair? Well, I do. Whenever someone says,"Ya, I've been needing a trim..." I get all excited, and my mind starts to wander to all these tricks and techniques I could do on their hair. I start picturing them with amazing haircuts and hairstyles. Shorter on the top, longer on the sides, up in the back, thinner through that one really wierd looking spot...  I start imagining how it would be to have my own space one day to really cut hair again. I mean that in mass quantities. Not just one or two a week, but alot. And then I start thinking about all the friends I could make, I could have client friends, and co-worker friends, product vendor friends, etc... of course etc. because the list would obviously go on and on. I could just cut hair all day long and be this amazing hair artist.... Now let's see... where was I? Oh ya. I love cutting hair.

I do remember when I first started cutting hair it was really awkward and difficult to even try to do just one whole haircut. It takes alot of practice, and alot of training for your eyes to know what you are looking for. For those of you who are cutting Mens hair on your own, remember to step back (about 4 feet) to look at what is really happening throughout the haircut that you are doing. Also, make sure you get the edges nice and even and clean. When someone first looks at a haircut, the eyes are automatically drawn to the perimeter. This would be the worst place for you to mess up.... no pressure. :)

Oh So Pretty

One thing that I love about being a mommy of a little girl is that I can make tons and tons of pretty little things for her to wear and never get tired of it! I made my little miss G some new flower clips for her hair last night. Not that she needed more, she already has about 20. No, more like 30. It all started when I pulled out the flowers to make one to go on her Halloween costume (pics soon to come), and saw all the other colors of flower petals sitting in my bag. There were tons of them and I just couldn't hold back all the creativeness flowing from my minds eye. Alas, I can't take credit for this pretty idea either. My cute sister in law taught me all about these easy to make and super cheap flowers. Fake flowers from the dollar store + Scrap booking  brad + hair clip = Pretty little hair do's.

Homecoming

One of my favorite things about knowing how to style hair is being able to do it quick. This homecoming hairdo was done in just under thirty minutes. I did B's hair a couple weeks ago for her first dance, what a fun occasion!  I made the flower out of extra fabric from her dress, so it matches oh so perfectly. There is an inside-out french braid going over her head like a headband, and then it swings into all the curls and braids in the back. I can't take credit for the idea, B told me she wanted the braid across the top and all the rest of the hair to be up in the back- cute idea!

Bridal Hair

This is a formal up-do I did for a girl for her bridal photo session. I did this hairstyle a while ago, in fact, the bride is now married and has a baby girl! But this is still one of my absolute favorite up styles in my portfolio. It is so smooth and elegant, and my favorite part is that she absolutely loved it!
